Katara Bento by mindfire3927 Katara Bento by mindfire3927
Tried out a new technique today so I could finally conquer Katara's bento box. I really like it, but it takes waaaay more prep than I'm used to since I have to actually sketch out my plans instead of just sort of winging it like I usually do. Still, it opens up a whole lot of new possibilities for themes so I'm pretty excited :D

1st Level: KATARA! Rice and nori, crab details. I used a mix of soy sauce, rice vinegar and food coloring to paint the rice.

2nd Level: blueberries, salad, Tui and La (carved bosc pear with nori) sitting on cucumber slice, puto (steamed sweetcake) with Water Tribe symbol, yogurt covered pretzels. I went a little cheater on this one too and included the egg that I fried after pictures and put on the rice. I guess I could've included one of the boiled eggs I have but I just LOVE fried egg over rice<3333

It irks me that Katara's box doesn't match the others now but OH WELL. I dunno if I'll redo them or not or just keep moving right along (I sort of like adorable rice ball zuzu :3). We'll see I guess.

All of your food designs are amazing. All the nice little details and references are great. You would make out like a bandit if you opened up an Avatar Bento shop.

Thanks! I've dreamed of maybe doing a bento foodcart at a convention but I think that'll just be a dream for a while :D

You're welcome!

That would be awesome, but I think you would sell out the moment you set up.

How long can most Bento boxes last? That would be one of my main concerns.

I think my goal would be to make each bento box fresh. I know many of my artist friends will take sketch commissions at cons and have a "waiting list" system, but I don't know if it's fair to have people wait 20-30 minutes for food O_o.

Bentos last overnight for sure but I loooove eating fresh, hot rice and food so I'd probably try to figure out a way to make it on the spot :P

Well some restaurants actually do make you wait that long for food lol. The ones that actually prepare the food and not just throw it in a microwave. Plus a lot of people are picky with their food, so it might not be worth it.

Still, pretty ambitious on your side. If you were to do that, I wouldn't make them as elaborate as some of your designs.
